Check out the work of my very talented intern Gavin Andrews, I asked him to document Olympia’s quickly disappearing modernist architecture in hopes that people would use his images as a resource when building in downtown! http://olymodern.tumblr.com/
KNOW YOUR FOOD - the Lexicon of Sustainability a multi-platform project that just last month was awarded the Food, Inc’s Non-profit Award! The project is based on a simple premise: people can’t be expected to live more sustainable lives if they don’t know the most basic terms and principles that define sustainability.
They are looking for funding to complete 24 short films that illuminate the terms & sustainable principles that we all need to know to fix our food system. The series, entitled Know Your Food, will be screening on PBS.org, selected PBS stations across the United States, and over the internet. Please support Initiative I-522 http://yeson522.com/ to label genetically engineered foods in Washington. It would require companies to inform consumers about the presence of GMOs in food products. We have a right to know whats in our food so we feed our selves and our families safely. A number of the companies that produce GMOs have developed their seeds to be used with their own pesticides and herbicides. This will lead to an increase in the use of these chemicals.
I strongly support Initiative I-522 http://yeson522.com/ to label genetically engineered foods in Washington. It would require companies to inform consumers about the presence of GMOs in food products.
The use of GMOs concentrates seed production and economic power in the hands of a handful of multinational corporations. This limits seed availability to large farms and corporations that can afford it, thus threatening the viability of small independent farms. GMO pollen can drift for many miles (corn is an example) and contaminate organic crops. This puts an undue burden on organic farmers to seek non-GMO seeds and protect their crops in order to maintain their purity. Additionally, a number of the companies that produce GMOs have developed their seeds to be used with their own pesticides and herbicides. This can lead to an increase in the use of these chemicals.
How I spend my money is my choice and in a very real way my vote. I prefer to support smaller, locally owned and operated farms that that practice sustainable agriculture. I would never knowingly serve or eat genetically engineered foods. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are untested for effects on humans and our environment. We have the right to know where our food comes from and what’s in it.
